Increasingly, attention in Australia is focusing on the role of postgraduate student research groups in higher degree research (HDR) student learning and experience.1 The current research project was aimed broadly at the evaluation of HDR groups, and was directed towards informing development of an interdisciplinary group around criminology, criminal law and criminal justice (the Crim* Network: http://crimstarnetwork.com/) based within the Law Faculty at the University of Sydney. Specifically, it sought to ensure the Network developed within a pedagogicallyinformed structure, and was sustainable in the long-term with potency for growth and outreach beyond the host faculty and institution
