© Georg Thieme Verlag KG Stuttgart - New York. Complementary therapies in pediatrics can be a useful complement to conventional medicine. Due to the high use and demand of herbal medicinal products among children and adolescents, the implementation of herbal medicine in the clinical routine of a pediatric hospital is a sensible step towards an integrative pediatric care. We demonstrate the implementation process and its obstacles with specific examples. It is thus clear that the lack of knowledge and dependence on individual experts can strongly impair the sustainability of this process. Solutions must be found that involve as many stakeholders as possible from the medical profession, nursing care, research and industry.
