This chapter discusses the use of fixed site-carrier (FSC) membranes for the facilitated transportation of carbon dioxide (CO2) in carbon capture processes. The two common FCM materials for CO2 capture are polyallylamine (PAAm) and polyethyleneimine (PEI), both of which contain primary amino functional groups that react reversibly with CO2 molecules. FCMs made from these materials have shown promising results in terms of permeability and selectivity for CO2 separation. Enzymes, such as carbonic anhydrase, have also been explored as potential catalysts for CO2 hydration in FSC membranes. The chapter concludes by discussing the environmental and economic advantages of FSC membranes for CO2 capture, as well as the challenges that need to be addressed for their scale-up and industrialization.
