This chapter outlines my work on creativity support tools for collaborative narrative and storytelling. I present this through the lens of an artefact I call assimilate, a work that builds upon a communal set of narratives that are seeded from mythology and folklore. Assimilate also serves as a prototype for evaluating reusable software architecture for collective knowledge accumulation and reflection. The technical aim is that of an holistic architecture, by which I mean a system that enables active engagement in the emergence of meaningful community narratives. These are systems that amplify or extend knowledge, based on its historical relationship to the environment and where the role of the participant is integral to the systems feedback and the maintenance of its self-organised behaviour.
