Water Stories of Green Square map brought local water histories to life through community engagement. The map featured illustrations of "portals" - physical objects, plants and animals in the landscape that sparked storytelling about water in specific locations. We shared this map through community groups, exhibitions, workshops and guided walks. Working with Rizzeria and as part of Pedal Set Go bike tours, we used the map to help people imagine Green Square's changes through time. Our research combined walking the area repeatedly, taking photographs, creating maps, and interviewing experts. The map worked in two ways: it helped people physically explore and experience the landscape with their senses, while also enhancing their understanding of how water and wetlands have influenced both the environmental and social history of Green Square.
